Background of Password cracking (part 2)

The term password cracking is typically limited to recovery of one or more plaintext passwords from hashed passwords. Password cracking requires that an attacker can gain access to the hashed password, either by reading the password verification database or intercepting a hashed password is sent via an open network, or have some other ways to rapidly and without limit to test if guessing the correct password. Without Hashed password, an attacker can still attempt access to the relevant computer system by guessing passwords. But the system is properly designed to limit the number of failed access attempt and can alert administrators to track the source of an attack if the quota is exceeded. With the hashed password, the attacker can work undetected, and if the attacker has obtained several hashed passwords, it is likely to break at least one high enough. There are also many other ways to get the password is not valid, such as social engineering, wiretapping, keystroke logging, login spoofing, garbage diving, time attack, etc.. However, cracking is usually pointed to a guessing attack.

Cracking may be combined with other techniques. For example, the use of hash-based challenge-response authentication method to verify the hashed password can assign a password to the eavesdropper, who can break the code. Some cryptographic protocols are more powerful something is to expose hashed-passwords for verification over a network, either by protecting them in transmission using high-quality keys, or by using zero-knowledge password proof.

Background of Password cracking

Password to access the computer systems are usually stored, in some form, in a database for the system to verify the password. To enhance privacy password, passwords stored verification data generated by applying generally means a password function, possibly in combination with other available data. For simplicity this discussion, when one-way functions do not include a secret key, in addition to passwords, we refer to one way function employed as a hash and output as a hashed password. Although the functions that create hashed passwords may be cryptographically secure, has a hashed password provides a quick way to verify guesses for the password by applying the function to each guess, and compare the results of verification data. The most commonly used hash function can be calculated quickly and the attacker can do this repeatedly with different guesses until a valid match is found, which means that the plaintext password has been recovered.

Application Security – IT Risk Management (part 2)

Encryption – Application Security
Encryption to reduce security risks and losses when the application Web server is violated. Although the company Intranet server has a vulnerability to a larger attack, encryption creates a lower relative risk.

Web Server – Application Security
Server is the most critical web application security risk sources for most companies. Application security assessment on a regular basis and implement security risk management to reduce security risks to the overall application security.

Database – Application Security
Web sites and applications must be interactive to be useful and there are risks … Web applications that do not validate the application of adequate security allows hackers to attack with the database. Invalid input resulted in many of the most popular attacks. A comprehensive risk assessment may reveal steps to ensure the security of the application.

The default configuration – Application Security
Web server default configuration often leave important information safe, templates and administrative tools open to attack. Security risks of inappropriate application allows hackers to gain control over Web server and your company’s security applications. The good news is there is an application security solution to combat them strong.

Corporations face increased levels of application security risk from hackers and cyber criminals looking for intellectual property and customer information. Comprehensive application security risk assessment is a modern company needs.

Security risk management applications provide optimum protection in the budget limits, law, ethics, and safety. Performing overall security risk assessment application enables organizations to make a wise decision.

Web Server – Application Security
Web Server is one critical source of organizational risks Application Security. Conduct security assessments and implement application security risk management is very important. Here are the core points that lead to major security risk for Security Applications:

The default configuration – Application Security
Web server default configuration may not be safe do not have to leave the sample, templates, administrative tools, etc. open to attack. Poor application security risk management leaves a security breach for hackers to take complete control of the Web server.

Database – Application Security
Web sites and applications must be interactive to be useful and there are risks … Web applications without adequate security applications allow hackers to attack their database. Invalid input script resulting in many databases worst attacks. A comprehensive risk assessment may reveal steps to ensure the security of the application.
