Did I Hear You Say, Mama, Help Me! I Lost My Websites!

This simple reminder is dedicated to all Webmasters (and Webslaves like me). Do not sleep tonight without reading this. Find out why below …

Have you ever seen someone cry so hard to help because they lost their websites?

I have seen this many times in several forums and have personally experienced the same thing recently. I am a living testimony of this one.

And so I shouted, “Mama help! I lost my website!”

But no one can help me … Sad but true …

So I deal with mounting problems that increase every day as I build my website. Lost sales, lost customers, lost files and lost his hair (it was very stressful you know).

If that does not happen to you before, good for you. If not, you already know how painful it was to wake up in the morning just to see your website being wiped out in the face of the internet.

Scary eh?

Webmaster loss websites for various reasons. This is probably because one or a combination of the following:

1) Server congestion or hardware failures
2) Datacenter disaster (fire, electricity, etc.)
3) software update and failure
4) Hacking and malicious intent
5) Transfer or movement of the server problems
6) Your webhost human error
7) You own human error
8) Other accident I might miss

Developing a Standard AUP (part 4)

Whatever the chosen solution filtration, should also monitor behavior in order to provide a disciplinary action on the part of the company required. As mentioned earlier, disciplinary action can be implemented in stages from a written warning to suspension to termination of employment. These rules should be detailed especially in the AUP and presented clearly to the employees so that expectations and decisions clearly defined before any action is taken.

The solution is Solutions

AUP defines the need to identify issues of risk management, software vulnerabilities and key employees required behavior. AUP is effective when combined with disciplinary action clearly stated and enforced effectively, companies protect employees, and financial networks. However, the AUP, the most successful AOS will depend a lot on the type of filtering solution choosing a company.

A filter is not only enforce AUP, but also to monitor employee behavior to a double layer of protection .. A strong and effective solution is to filter out the last piece of the puzzle to develop, maintain and uphold the company’s AUP.

Developing a Standard AUP (part 3)

Develop and educate employees AUP only the first step. Implementation of the system should also include how the company will monitor and enforce their internal AUP. In an ideal world, only saying an employee to not use the assessment may be quite bad. But employees can deceive themselves and endangering a host network security system despite good intentions.

Does the company chose a solution hardware or software will affect how well they can monitor and enforce their AUP. Although education employees will assist in the enforcement of AUP for the judicial system can not find that a company has made reasonable efforts to keep their companies free of hostility, harassment and other violent behavior, it would not be enough to make your network secure from outside interference, either intentional or not

The AUP will reduce the obligations of a company representative can survive but the factors responsible representative further protected in a written AUP enforced through disciplinary measures and filtering solutions. A filtering solution can prevent employees from accessing the site, software and other connections that may violate the company, AOS AUP and dangerous and network systems. This will eliminate errors at various levels of employees.

Developing a Standard AUP (part 2)

First of all, the AUP should be explicitly written and presented clearly to all employees. Must be comprehensive, covering all the rules, and procedures that police approached P2P, Internet, Instant Messaging, and email activities. The use of vague language should be strictly avoided in an effective AUP. For example, states that this email will be used for business purposes can leave room for employees to declare he was using email for business when it really matters, Äúpersonal, au business than correspondence related to his work.

Conversely, the right to AUP details the use and misuse of the term. For example, companies must detail the downloading of music, videos and other copyrighted material is expressly prohibited. Employees should be told that all communications whether a personal or business nature are monitored and stored. Needs to be explained monitoring and penalties for abuse of employees. Employees should be made to understand that the use of company computers and protocols such as email, IM and P2P is not a right but a privilege granted to them by the company.

Punishments ranging from written warnings all the way up to termination should be clearly explained. The comprehensive nature of policies and procedures that must be updated periodically in order to manage growing concerns such as blogging. New technologies and communications protocols that appear every day, AI a company, the best AOS usage policy that is acceptable should be flexible enough to accommodate up to this threat.

Developing a Standard AUP

Developing an Acceptable Usage Policy (AUP) requires organizations to take advantage of a process that can ensure their AUP, once applied, as effective as possible. One such popular method is called Risk Assessment Management, an acronym for the requirement, identify, select and know. RISK hired to build an effective AUP is critical if a public or private organization. Even family-owned businesses need the AUP if their employees have access to the Internet.

RISK

RISK their policy requirements include understanding that the company, reputation and assets of AOS can be threatened by abuse or misuse of company employees, AOS or computer network. When a company understands that email, instant messaging, peer-to-peer and web surfing technology could leave them vulnerable to exploitation or damage to systems and networks, they have identified the key elements around which they must design their AUP.

After the basic requirements have been identified, the next step is to develop a policy that will protect the security of their networks and companies, AOS reputation. Since the breach in computer network security may result in substantial regulatory fines court settlement that could cost billions and negative media attention that could damage the company, AOS reputation, design a comprehensive and relevant AUP more important than ever.

Detect Spyware and Adware and Remove It Without Spending a Dime (part 3)

4. Detecting Spyware and Adware using anti-spyware, anti-adware software. Lavasoft’s AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy are two excellent methods to restore your system for free. Majorgeeks.com is a favorite and reliable freeware website that has this and some extraordinary additional spyware / adware and malware software to prevent cleaning (including firewall free download).

The best approach is to use the ALL option. Time proactive by surfing using a browser that match and get critical firewall, but also helps to be careful of other good anti-adware/spyware applications. If you are affected with some really bad malware that can not be cleaned with AdAware or Spybot, digging himself a geek. There are a large number of forums on the Internet is committed to achieving nothing other than to detect spyware and adware and remove them and other malware. In all probability, if your computer is contaminated with it, hundreds of others before you have been contaminated and had previously found a way to remove malware.

Detect Spyware and Adware and Remove It Without Spending a Dime (part 2)

3. Use a software or hardware firewall (not just Windows XP Service Pack 2’s firewall). This may be expensive and difficult to do but did not. If you use a DSL or broadband cable connection your Internet Service Provider (ISP) you may have issued a DSL / Cable router with a firewall included with aa. All you need to do is switch it on. This may force you to spend a few minutes to read the instructions.

If your ISP does not give you a DSL or Cable broadband router that includes a firewall you can shell anywhere from $ 20 – $ 60 (or sometimes even cheaper when it includes mail-in rebate) to get a router. If you are using DSL you will need a DSL router. If you use a cable broadband ISP you will need a Cable Router. Brands such as Linksys have built in firewalls and a feature called NAT, Network Address Translation, which is very effective because it hides your IP address is actually from the Internet. All routers are sold with instructions on how to connect them. If you want to keep your computer security free, just use a free software firewall.

Detect Spyware and Adware and Remove It Without Spending a Dime

Adware and spyware has become the world’s computer problems from the use of World Wide Web. They have turned into malware because they are very hostile viruses and behavior. Along with the danger of identity theft and fraud at the hands of the Internet, adware and spyware can be other than merely irritating. Here are some methods to detect spyware and adware and remove or simply avoid adware and spyware and not spending a penny of the most recent “anti-virus” software, such as Spyware Nuker.

1. USE Firefox. If you do not use the Internet very much, then maybe you do not understand much about Firefox. All you need to understand is that the browser is doing VERY well and has security protection is excellent.

2. DO NOT USE Microsoft Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer is similar to Swiss cheese. Apparently have an endless supply of security holes. Microsoft constantly submit a patch to fix all the flaws in Internet Explorer 6.x and earlier versions of the browser. Although able to “secured” by adding thesecurity may provide much of its functionality when set to the highest security when exploring specific features disabled.

Deliver Your Web Site From Evil (Part 2)

6. Do not leave is not encrypted, confidential information on your server.

This is only a computer in a room, God knows where, with God knows who has access to it.

7. Use a popular web host.

A cheap one may be an un-committed resellers. Google PageRank they give instructions on how popular they are. Send them an email or two. See how long to get answers. Check out their forums; how busy they are? They do not have a forum? Next!

8. If you’re set. Htaccess file or other type of password protection, use a password that is long and diverse.

“Ch33s3And0n10n” far more secure than “cheeseandonion”, and only as memories. Make passwords at least 8 characters, contain both letters and numbers, and both uppercase and lowercase letters. Common words can be guessed by brute force cracking program.

9. Script to strip bare essentials. Regular upgrades.

Programs like PHPNuke has many features in the default install. They allow webmasters and users more control website content. This creates a vulnerability. A ‘Nuke my site was hacked during Christmas 2005, by an Arab group. Fortunately, I have a backup. I do not have fast internet access, at the time, to upgrade it. I only need one module to work, so I let go of the less important, and change the file permissions in the admin. At the time of writing, I’m waiting to see what happens next!

If you do not really need it, turn it off.

10. Be careful what you say about other people or products on your site.

Not really secure, but … people are very sensitive about criticism. ‘Flame wars’ are a waste of time and energy, so avoid them.
