Can Web Service Companies Do Without 24×7 Dotcom-Monitor support? (part 4)

2. Performance Monitoring: Most companies use the Web service SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) for architect services transaction ‘receipt, de-serialization, processing, serialization, and delivery. SOAP is a lightweight, stateless, XML communication protocol that lets applications exchange of structured messages / transactions on the Internet. Most current implementations use HTTP SOAP binding for SOAP wide availability and ability to get through the firewall.

One of Dotcom-Monitor feature is to determine the level of performance available from the SOAP implementation using appropriate tests of transactions / messages. First, Dotcom-Monitor check for latency, the round trip time it takes to send and receive a transaction / message from the server to monitor the service and back. High-resolution timer is used to measure the time required for each round trip. Dotcom-Monitor repeat this check at specified intervals. For throughput, Dotcom-Monitor checks to find the available peak throughput of each SOAP implementations using the same number of driver threads, record the number of round trips completed per second, and compared with norms provided.
