CASE STUDY: How Website Monitoring Saved an Online Auto Parts Retailer (part 3)

After a one-minute monitoring every day for 7 days, the following problems have been identified:

1. Slow Website Response
Dotcom-Monitor’s “report by hour” feature quickly find the problems that cause poor performance. Collected one minute is a collection of performance data per hour into a single weekly report. This report provides summary statistics about the transaction with the clock. Information such as average response time (in seconds), required time to access the Web site, and the number of successes and failures, provide a clear picture about site performance during different daily intervals. Dotcom Monitor’s algorithm, it is possible to calculate the site slow response period. Dotcom-Monitor found that, although e-commerce site hosted on a dedicated server with, for several times a day, other applications on the server that consumed most of the resources. This causes a slow site response. This occurs only during certain hours, such conflicting applications that only run a few times a day.

2. Slow Web Page Response
Retailers IT department also found that some pages in a transaction, such as the history of shipping and the “print invoice” is very slow. They took a long time to load, causing buyers to leave the site rather than call customer service. Unfortunately, the other pages in the same transaction is extremely fast to load. Contributions to these differences in the network, Dotcom-Monitor was able to identify specific pages online slow and browse database tables issue is currently accessing the page. After indexing is done right, this problem resolved.
